Hahndorf Band Festivals
After a whirlwind trip to Adelethan, leaving at midnight straight after the evening concert on the Saturday night, there has been no rest for the members of the Hahndorf Town Band. Since being back, the band has been rehearsing weekly, as well as holding weekend sectional practices to rehearse for the up and coming South Australian State Competitions. This year the Hahndorf Town Band have been given the honour of being the host for this annual competition, which will also incorporate further celebrations for the 175th anniversary of the township of Hahndorf. The committee have been working very hard with the South Australian Band Association and the 175th Anniversary Committee to work out venues to present this major event with a new twist. To add excitement for visitors to Hahndorf as well as the many supporters of each competing band the event will be held in a variety of venues, with musical performances being presented on both Saturday 20th September and Sunday 21st September. The choice of venues are: The Old Mill, St Michaels Church, the newly renovated Rotunda in the Pioneer Gardens, St Pauls Church and the Hahndorf Institute. On Saturday there are Brass Solo and Ensemble Competitions for both senior and junior players which will be held at the Old Mill. The Open Concert Band Championships will be held at St Michaels Church. An Entertainment Concert and Static march will be held at the Rotunda in the pioneer park as well as the Junior and Senior Brass Champion of Champions also being held at St Michaels Church.
On the Sunday if you wish to listen to Wind solos and Ensembles make your way to the Hahndorf Institute or if Brass is your choice head on down to the Old Mill where the States Brass Bands will be competing for the title of the best brass band in the state for their grade. During the day there will also be a static march held in the Rotunda at Pioneer Gardens. If you wish to finish your weekend of by seeing all of the concert and brass bands involved in this amazing weekend of music and entertainment, stay for the Parade of Bands which will be held on Balhannah Road, just off the main street, very near the Hahndorf Institute. A weekend ticket will only cost you $15 or if you can only come along for one of the days tickets will cost you $10. If you wish to hear the solos or ensembles tickets will be $5 per person. This event will bring much entertainment and music to the township of Hahndorf, so come up for the days, listen to many top quality concert and brass bands, feel free to call into any of the local eateries (we can certainly recomend the Hahndorf Inn!) and help us celebrate the State Brass and Concert Bands Competitions as well as 175th Anniversary celebrations within the township of Hahndorf.
